About MacStyleSkins

The beginning

They say that necessity is the mother of invention. In the case of MacStyleSkins, that statement certainly rings true. In 2004, MacStyleSkins founder, Scott Rafferty, purchased his first Apple device - a 'snow' iBook. It was incredible... and about 7 seconds out of the box it was scratched to all hell. (If you owned an iBook it's likely that you can testify that the plastic used on the case seemed softer than butter.) Not to be discouraged that his new investment was getting more and more scuffed with regular daily use, Scott decided to do something about it.

A vinyl skin seemed to be a great solution. It offered a barrier against that constant scratching and also looked pretty neat. As an advertising student, Scott was no stranger to the value of design and color.

In 2006, after a year and a half of stalled attempts to get the company off the ground, Scott managed to launch the first revision of MacStyles.com. Back then there were only 8 colors and the skins were ill-fitting at best. Over the years, design templates have improved, and MacStyleSkins has also rolled out several different product lines, including MacStyles, MacTatts, MacPad & Maccents. The color palate has also been wildly expanded and now boasts 45 striking colors.

Back to roots

The market for computer skins has become flooded over the years. Anyone can visit a competitor and purchase a skin with whatever crazy image they desire. To those, we say, go for it! Everyone's style is different, that's what makes art amazing. If you want a 'Mac Style,' you're in the right place. MacStyleSkins is very different in our approach to our entire product line. We believe that Apple devices are works of art that should be treated as such. It is our ultimate goal that every item we sell will enhance the look of your piece of art. We are the frame to your canvas.
